Just watched a great TED talk on the future of human/machine “co-operation”.

http://www.ted.com/talks/shyam_sankar_the_rise_of_human_computer_cooperation.html

Makes the distinction between the idea of Artificial Intelligence (AI) where machines are capable of human thinking tasks and will ultimately replace us in these fields, to Intelligence Augmentation which highlights the strengths of each to enhance our ability to problem solve.

Its all about co-operation and making the best of each others strengths.

Some great case studies from catching terrorists to protein folding and big data.

Not to mention a star trek refernce: “Don’t take a toaster and try to make it Data from Star Trek, but take a human, and make us more capable.”
